Johnson County's courthouse sits in Warrensburg, but the University of Central Missouri sets the pace of the town. The city's median age is 24.8 in the Census Bureau's 2020 to 2024 estimates, and more than half of its occupied homes are rented. The Holden and Pine Streets commercial district downtown was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2017, and about three in ten homes in the city were built before 1970. The busiest road in town is Maguire Street, which the city counts at nearly 18,000 trips a day and which connects US-50 to the university.
The ground here changes from one part of town to the next. Geologists use the name Warrensburg sandstone for a group of Middle Pennsylvanian sandstone bodies in western Missouri. Near the center of town, USDA soil mapping shows Barco loam, which formed from weathered sandstone and shale, with soft rock usually 20 to 40 inches below the surface. A little south of downtown the map switches to Arisburg silt loam, a wind-deposited soil over a clay-heavy subsoil that rates high for shrink-swell. Most years it can hold water within a foot and a half of the surface at some point between January and April. A driveway base dug into one of those is a different job from one dug into the other, so we price the base and drainage from what is under the old concrete and where the water runs.
Our crews know the drive down, because we were the prime contractor on curb and sidewalk work for the City of Warrensburg in 2025. It is about 41 miles to Warrensburg from our Grain Valley yard, most of it on US-50, and the trip takes just under an hour. That distance doesn't change what we charge; the size of the job sets the price. Our own people and equipment handle the digging, the base, and the concrete or asphalt on top, and the same crews do a rental driveway on a side street or a heavy-duty lane behind a business on the highway. Wendell and Daniel work up the estimate together, and the written proposal is free. Labor and workmanship on the finished job are under our warranty for one year.

Paving In Warrensburg: FAQs
Will the city pay to fix the sidewalk in front of my Warrensburg house?
Sometimes. Warrensburg's Sidewalk Improvement Program covers residential sidewalks only. The city splits town into zones, inspects each zone every year for hazards, and puts the repairs out for public bid. In-zone repairs are covered completely by the city. Out-of-zone repairs, and repairs done outside the program's timeframe, carry a 50/50 cost share with the adjoining owner. Brick or stone walks that are not on the National Register get the same split, with the city's share capped at what concrete would have cost. To find out where your block stands, call Public Works at 660-747-9131. If you would rather not wait, or the walk is part of a bigger driveway job, we can price it and confirm the current requirements with the city before anyone touches the public walk.
What happens when a Warrensburg curb dig hits rock or soft ground?
The city's posted curb specification covers that. Any rock, shale, or soft and yielding material comes out 6 inches below subgrade and is replaced with compacted backfill, and unless the plans show otherwise, the subgrade is dug 12 inches past each outside edge of the curb or gutter. The concrete is Class B-1 air-entrained, which the concrete section of the same specifications sets at a minimum of 4,000 psi. Contraction joints go in no more than 10 feet apart, and expansion joints go at curb returns or no more than 150 feet apart. Once the concrete hardens, the joints are cleaned and primed and then sealed. On city right-of-way the spec governs, and we confirm the current version with the city before we bid. On a private lot it still makes a sensible baseline, since weathered rock can be just 20 to 40 inches down near the center of town.
Is the gap between Warrensburg tenants long enough to replace a driveway?
That depends on how many days you have. With a standard mix, cars can go back on the new concrete after about 7 days. When the gap is tighter than that, a faster-curing mix gets the drive ready for traffic in 2 to 3 days, though it costs more. Concrete reaches full strength at 30 days. Since so many Warrensburg homes are rentals, a lease turnover is often the window a driveway job has to fit, so send us the move-out and move-in dates and we will build the schedule into the proposal.
Do the city's Maguire Street plans affect paving at a business along it?
They could. The city rebuilt Maguire from Furmeson Street to Broad Street and held the ribbon cutting on December 19, 2025. Its plans for 2026 include design work on the Maguire and Highway 50 interchange and consideration of a Maguire Street Corridor overlay district, so before we price a job on that stretch, we confirm the current requirements with the city. A lot that carries trucks gets heavy-duty concrete from us, usually 8 to 10 inches thick, with the exact thickness set by many factors on the site. We also build asphalt lots and drives and do mill and overlay.
